Hospitals Must Meet Requirements for Petitions for Judicial Commitment

The Louisiana Supreme Court has contacted the LHA and requested that they remind hospitals that certain information is required by LA. R.S. 28:54 to be included in the petition for judicial commitment. Specifically, the petition should include the respondent’s name, date of birth, alias, social security number, sex, and race. The law further provides that if the petitioner is unable to supply any of this information in the petition, the petitioner must include reasons why the information could not be included. The Louisiana Supreme Court uses the information in the petition to report to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Instant Check System.
