Cypress Pointe Surgical Hospital
Enhancements in Security & Access Control
Cypress Pointe Surgical Hospital’s yearly active shooter drill revealed a vulnerability in the facility’s post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) due to high-traffic entrance and exit areas that proved difficult to secure. As a result, the Risk Management team, Facilities Director, Executive team, Human Resource Director, and PACU Director determined the department entrance should be limited access for staff and patient safety.
The door was converted to badge entry only and all staff badges requiring access were reprogrammed. As a result, all unauthorized individuals — including visitors, potential active shooters, and surgical representatives from outside companies — are prevented from gaining access to the PACU department.
The project significantly increased the safety of Cypress Pointe’s employees and patients in the PACU area. In a real-life active shooter situation, this badge entry access will provide a safer and more secure environment for all.
