Julie Savoy Gray

Julie Savoy is a 2002 graduate of the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at LSU and has represented health care facilities and providers for 22 years. She is a founding member of Savoy & Delahoussaye, a Lafayette based law firm focused primarily on legal services for health care facilities and professionals. Julie’s practice includes medical malpractice defense, health care risk management consultation, and professional licensure matters. She successfully litigated the case of Thomas vs. Regional Medical Center, et al to the state supreme court, which established that claims of negligent credentialing, asserted against hospitals, are to be considered medical malpractice claims within the scope of the Louisiana Medical Malpractice Act, reversing the precedent set in the Billeaudeau case. Julie is a member of the John M. Duhe, Jr. American Inn of Court, the Louisiana Association of Hospital Attorneys, and the Louisiana State Bar Association.

Prior to her legal career, Julie was a registered nurse, having obtained her B.S.N. from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1982. She began her nursing career as an OR nurse and then served as an infection control nurse for 15 years. During her nursing career, she was active on the local and national levels in the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, serving as chair of APIC’s Governmental Affairs Committee, and as faculty for APIC’s Basic Training Course. She was named Outstanding Alumnus, Class of 1982, by the College of Nursing, University of Southwestern Louisiana. She has presented locally and nationally on topics relating to infection control, healthcare malpractice, risk management, and regulatory issues in the healthcare field.
